Neuroscience and Eco-fields

as-above-so-below

“As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul” Hermes Trismegitus

Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the PhD in Wisdom Studies at Ubiquity University’s Wisdom School as part of the course Neuroscience in a Hypercomplex World: Principles and Practice with Jim Hickman, Dr Will Taegel and guests

Introduction

This course and my own experience during the period of this course brought me to a thesis that I will expand on in this paper. The thesis is that as we shift our interior experience and patterns, so the world around us changes. On top of that, the reverse is true – as we create change in the information fields of the world around us, so that is reflected in changes in our interior experience and nervous system. This is why I have chosen to connect neuroscience and eco-fields, and why I selected Hermes’ “as within, so without” quote as the subtitle. The two main faculty members of the course also reflect these two aspects – Jim Hickman on neuroscience and Will Taegel on eco-fields. If this thesis proves to be true (and there is a lot more work needed to develop it) then it will give us a way to navigate hypercomplexity grounded ultimately in our own choices about how we relate to ourselves, each other and the world around us.

Presence Resonance Coherence

photo of woman posing during golden hour

I wrote this as part of my post-paper for a Wisdom University course on Living in Mastery in 2012 – and just found it again as I review all my papers for my PhD dissertation. Not sure what I think of it but was told to not make that choice for others – so here it is :-).

Presence

There is not much

One can say about

Presence

As really it is

Empty

Of anything.

“Empty”

from Old English meaning “rest”.

Rest.

Not doing.

Still.

Still.

Not moving.

Noticing movement.

Feeling stillness.

Eye at the center.

I at the center.

The center at I.

I as the center.

The center as I.

I as that.

That as I.

I thou it we you its.

Mmmm.

Still.

At rest.

Present

With it all.

Presence.

Something stirs.

Pre-sensing resonance.

Resonance

In the stillness

Something stirs.

Or is stirred.

Still again.

Still. Stir. Still. Stir.

Stir Stir. Still.

Stir Stir Stir. Still.

What’s that stirring?

Attention drawn.

Curiosity awakened.

Something is stirring.

The first awake seems to stir others.

New others.

And old others.

New constellation though.

What’s stirring?

It’s disturbing.

My stillness.

It’s growing.

Something is forming.

Strange.

Stranger.

Strangest.

Still is safe.

I know still.

Staying still

I watch the strange stirring.

The connections

Start to draw me in.

I feel excitement.

Something is growing in me.

As me.

It’s me growing!

An explosion of stirring

Like the crazed whisking of a spoon in a teacup

Sloshes tea all over the place

Yet is held together by the stirring

At the center.

Then I see.

The harder is stirred,

The emptier the spiral at the center

The fuller the tea all around.

Presence holds resonance

As a new form is born.

Bring on the tea!

Coherence

As I see

Myself in the strange

My whole being

Sings a new tune.

From teaspoon

To dervish dancer

Whipping the world into its orbit.

I look up.

Things look different.

They look strange

And I recognise

The strangeness.

It fits.

We fit.

New me, new world.

We move.

We dance.

We sing.

We play.

And stillness fills the movement.

And movement fills the stillness.

As one.

And my mind asks:

But what changed?

I see the same world

But feel it is different.

It responds differently.

I act differently.

But physically it’s all the same.

My life is different.

Or so it feels.

What is that out there

If it so malleable

By this in here?

How can I impact that

When there is so much of it?

What’s the difference

Between my experience of reality

And reality itself?

Is there a difference?

What if someone else

Changes their experience of reality

Does that change mine?

And if it’s all moving together,

Then who’s doing the moving?

That’s a conversation killer.

Mind stops.

Still.

In presence

I feel the resonance

And am the coherence

And that’s all I know

For now.

The Wisdom Factor

With Wisdom University in Europe, we are going to be launching an exciting new concept in October – the Wisdom Factor. There is a book coming out in Dutch first with essays by five authors – Dr Will Taegel, Dr Jm Garrison, Prof Matthijs Schouten, Irene van Lippe and Gert van Santen – followed by a two and a half day workshop with the authors deepening our understanding and felt experience of the Wisdom Factor.

In my words, the Wisdom Factor is accessing the dimensions of ourselves and our world that connect to our more intuitive and energetic sensing than to our rational mind. The conclusion I have come to is that this is essential for us to transition through the current turbulence.

You are welcome to the Book Launch on the morning of October 10th and the workshop on the afternoon of the 10th through to the afternoon of the 12th (which carries academic credit for Wisdom University students and is also open to others).

See Invitation Wisdom Factor book launch (Dutch) for more information on the book launch and Invitation Wisdom Factor Intensive (Dutch) for more on the workshop. Or feel free to contact me.

From Evolution to Volution

From Evolution to Volution – the implications of cosmic geometry (cosmometry) on our understanding of life and the human story.

This is based on a paper submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for my PhD in Wisdom Studies at Wisdom University, following the course Fundamentals of Cosmometry, lead by Marshall Lefferts with guests.

The images of torus, jitterbug and vector equilibrium used with thanks to Marshall Lefferts.

Introduction

The idea that we as humanity have evolved in a linear process over time is probably one of the most widely accepted ideas across the human species. There is debate between more religious fundamentalist perspectives and more scientific-rational perspectives about exactly when it all began (eg a few thousand years ago versus 14 billion years ago), but they all agree on the idea that since that beginning we have been evolving through historical time with a past, present and future. Indeed, even our most popular philosophers and spiritual teachers tend to promote an evolutionary perspective (Wilber (1996), Cohen (2011), Laszlo (1996)). In my own book (Merry 2009) I adopted and connected these various evolutionary theories.

However, over the last year or so, I have come to question this perspective, and the cosmometry retreat has strengthened my belief that there is a more adequate perspective on our human reality that better reflects the fundamental dynamics of life. This paper attempts to explore the broader perspective and apply it to our human story.Continue reading

Fundamentals of Energy Work

I’m very excited about this event I will be co-teaching on with Calen and Jini Rayne in Asheville, USA in September. We are pioneering an introduction to the basics in energetic work, to help people get a sense of what it is all about and then find their way into practices that suit them if appropriate. Calen is a true master of the invisible realms and Jini is one of the world’s most qualified Feng Shui practitioners.

Click here for more info on my site, or go directly to Calen’s site here. Register by emailing me (petermerry@wisdomuniversity.org) or Calen (crayne@wisdomuniversity.org). We are choosing to keep the group quite small first time round (c 15) and have a few places left, so if you feel called, act now!

My latest take on life, the universe and everything – Volution

This is the pre-paper that I wrote for Wisdom University’s Fundamentals of Cosmometry virtual intensive. It carries a creative commons copyright.

Volution

Introduction

This paper describes my current understanding of life, the fundamental patterns at work, and the implications of that for our work in the world – in a very compact nutshell! It draws on my collaboration with Dylan Newcomb, input from Marshall Lefferts at the Wisdom University Chartres intensive 2011, the work of Nassim Haramein, ECOtherapy concepts and practice of Hans Andeweg, and my own original ideas.

Three Architectures

I understand reality as composed of what I call three primary architectures: material, relational and energetic. The quality of the material is defined by the quality of the relational which is defined by the quality of the energetic.
